So now, we are going to present you the “Church of Scientology” which is with the two other sects that we'll present you next, the three primary “sectarian groups” more set up in the United States and the South-America. Indeed, we put “sectarian groups” in inverted commas given that these groups are considered as “religion” there, but we're precisely here to prove you that THEY ARE SECTS.

Originally, the Scientology which has been known as the "Church of the new Comprehension" claims it's “a religion that offers a precise path leading to a complete and certain understanding on one's true spritual nature and one's relationship to self, family, groups, mankind, all life forms, the material universe, the spiritual universe and the Supreme Being” and that their only goal is the true spiritual clarification and freedom for every humans.

In this way, the Church of Scientology has been developed by an american writer of science fiction and fantasy stories : Lafayette Ronald Hubbard (1911-1986), better known as L. Ron Hubbard. This latter founded this organisation in 1953 in the United States of America. Indeed, in 1950, Hubbard published his first press article about dianetics*, entitled Dianetics : The Evolution of a Science in the magazine where he used to release his fictions and also, in the same year, wrote Dianetics : The Modern Science of Mental Health which was a best-seller.. But why did he create it ? Because he  participated in the Second Wolrd War and during it, he was gravely wounded, and to him, it's thanks for the meditation that he could be saved. Then, this theory achieved great success, so his inventor, Hubbard himself, obsessed by the fact of making one's fortune, created the Scientology, a religion in order to expand the dianetic. Finally, in 1953, the first church was built in Camden (New Jersey). Moreover, since its creation, this organisation has developed quickly : in 1954, there was only the USA which adopted the Scientology, while, nowadays there are about 100 countries. We can't give you an exact number about the members of Scientology because there are a lot of controversies on the fact that the “church” lies telling that there is 12 millions of members in the whole world. Indeed, a survey done by the City University of New York found only 55,000 people in the USA who claimed to be scientologists. And some observers estimate that there are bewteen 100,000 and 200,000 (mostly in the USA, Europe, Australia and South Africa) in the whole world. In this way, nobody can really know how many they are..

Nevertheless, which is sure is that the central seat of Scientology is Los Angeles. Also, there are important offices in Clearwater (FL), knowing that the group owns almost all the buidlings and that this is the city where is located the “spiritual seat” called the “Flag Building” (inaugurated in 2013).

As the majority of the sects, the scientology has a pyramid-shaped structure, so then ranked. Indeed, there's a guru at the top, and the members are in submission to the guru. This latter is nowadays David Miscavige, an ex-catholic, given that Hubbard is dead, and knowing that Miscavige was the assistant of Hubbard. You have to know thanks to testimonies, that Miscavige is a dangerous man behind his kind looks : he is a real dictator (more informations here).

Now, let's talk about the convictions of this organisation which advocates the dianetics, a spiritual wakening. First of all, its fundamental goal is to gain knowledge in order to improve the existence. By the way, we can clearly notice that through the introductory videos in the Scientology official website, but especially in the word “scientology given that “scio” means “knowledge” in latin, and “logos” means “study of” in greek. Furthermore, for the scientologist, the human being is a spiritual entity, called “thétan” who is immortal but immaterial. Nevertheless, he would be able to control the “MEST” : the matter, the energy, the space and the time. Also, for this “church”, the “thétans” are responsible for the negativity of the humans. And evidently if someone wants to free himself, he's going to have to pay out around 100, 000 $ (and become a member of course...). Moreover when you're scientologist, the study of Ron Hubbard's work is a big part of your life (knowing that the complete collection costs more or less 4,000 $) : they usually study the texts in the “church” watched over by supervisors. Obviously, the Scientology has got other beliefs which are concealed, and are finally revealed when you become an adept.

Also, in Scientology, one of its features is that it is involved in some causes (Narconon, anti-drug program ; Criminion, prison rehabilitation program ; etc...). The majority of their activities depends directly on Scientology.

One of the ways used for enrolling people is the Oxford Capacity Analysis (OCA) which is a personality test. You have to know that this test has no relation to the University Oxford ! In this way, this test is a really important part of the Scientology recruitment. It is a free test, made up of 200 questions (some of them are really strange..) : you can only answer “yes”, “maybe”, or “no”. When the test is filled in, you have to go to the “Church of Scientology” of your city, if you want your results. Once you're there, a scientologist serves you. He shows you the results of your test and explain you what the graph means.

In this latter, you see the red line ? It means that everything above is good : in this way, everything below.. is not. Usually, the test will be bad even if you do not have that much problems in your life, expect one or two points (by the way here are the “best” answers of the test : you'll get the highest score with these answers, and here is the graph matching). The scientologist will tell you that the graph is the proof that your life is not optimum. And then, obviously, they will convince you that they can improve it if you purchase the Dianetics and also courses. Oh and if you do the test and you want your results, but unfortunately you work a lot and you don't really have free time, don't worry ! Indeed, they want to attract new members insomuch they can propose you to make an appointment a sunday at 8:30 p.m, yes..

In Scientology, a spiritual process exists, called the “Bridge to Total Freedom (or shoud we must say the "Bridge to Nowhere"..) which allow you to reach more than 180 levels (yes, it's a never-ending process..). In each level, you have to do some spiritual exercises in order to move on to the next level. Sorry to disappoint you but of course it's not free : it becomes more expensive little by little.

So, the first step is the auditing especially made available for the preclear. Indeed, a preclear is a person who thanks to the audition, can find out more about himself and life, and then can become Clear. The audition is made up of the preclear and the auditor. This latter is a scientologist clergyman “trained and qualified to better individuals through Scientology counseling”, in this way he helps the person to get rid of her/his harmful influence. The audition consists in asking specific questions (by the auditor) in order to find a precise moment of your life and detect some shocks. Also, the auditor uses the “well-known” electropsychometer (also called the “e-meter”) who is supposed to measure the intensity of your emotions, good or bad. Usually, the preclear is is an hypnotic condition : in this way, unconsciously, the “victim” can reveal things that consciously he would not say. And unfortunately, sometimes, the group can threaten you with these “secrets” if you leave it.

When you finally reach the state of Clear (thanks to the audition), it means that you are got rid of the harmful influene (bad memories, traumas, emotional shocks, etc..). From the point of view of the scientologists, by becoming “Clear”, “without a reactive mind, [you] regain [you] basic personality, self-determinism and, in essence, become much, much more [yourself]”. In this way, the Clear will not have engrams*1 anymore.

Then, you can move on to the next spiritual states above Clear : the superior levels of Operating Thetan (OT I, OT II, OT III, OT IV, OT V, OT VI, OT VII, and OT VIII). The “thétan” would be able to control the MEST (as we saw above). Normally, the OT levels are classified by Scientology, but nowadays a section has been “leaked”, especially on the web (by the way, for the scientologists if a non-scientologist read this, he risks fall ill and even die...). So, for example, we know that the OT I costs 2,200$ ; the OT II, 4,200$ ; the OT III costs 7,200$ and we know that a unbelievable story about Xenu is revealed : the “leader intergalactic confederation” who sent the “thétans” in Earth (called Teegeeack..) in order to settle the problem of overpopulation in the other planets, etc... well it's a story really complicated and particulary insane ; the OT VII consists in communicating with plants... However, the higher level : OT VIII remains completely secret. We only know that he is reachable aboard the Freewinds (one of the prestigious boat of Scientiology and Sea Org).

Also, the Scientology has got different symbols :

▬ First, there's the cross with eight branches, which we can notice as a sort of reference to the christianity, knowing that the scientologists assure that this new “religion” is compatible with the christianity. This one has been drawn by the creator himself : L. Ron Hubbard. This latter said that the cross is inspired by a spanish cross of the 15th century. And in the Scientology website, they describe it as a cross which represents the eight dynamics*2 of life, “through which each individual is striving to survive”, and also it symbolizes the fact of being happy with theses eight parts. But is it really the truth ? Because, we can point out to you the fact that this cross is originally a christian cross but when you add the “little cross” it's as if the christian cross was crossed out. Therefore, we can interpret it by the fact that the Scientology perhaps tries to get the upper hand, given that the christian cross crossed out is indeed the scientology cross herself/itself.

▬ Secondly, there's the most well-known symbol : the “S” and the double triangle created in 1952 by Hubbard. Obviously, the “S” represents Scientology itself. Then, the inferior triangle represents the triangle A-R-C : A for affinity, R for reality and C for communication, in order to improve the relation between the members (comprehension). And, the other triangle is the superior triangle K-R-C : K for knowledge, R for responsibility, and C for control, with the K above given that the knowledge is the main thing of Scientology. This triangle symbolizes especially the power, that Hubbard puts above the comprehension. Also, we can think that the triangle K-R-C represents the power in our world, original goal of the Scientology.

The propaganda was used a lot by the dictators and is still used by the governments by the way. But the sects also use it. Indeed, Scientology uses a lot propaganda in order to attract new members. Especially, videos of propaganda where they show themselves in the act of helping people of big disaster as the September 11 attacks or also the Haiti and Japan earthquakes (they usually wear yellow tee-shirts : the volunteer ministers) : here's  a link of one of their propaganda's videos.

Also, in the “video world”, a film called “After Earth” (2013) with Will Smith (Cypher) and his son, Jaden Smith (Kitai) as main characters, is accused of being the apologia of Scientology. Well, here are the explanations :

  • the similarity between the story of After Earth and Battlefield Earth (which is a movie with John Travolta, a famous scientologist, who is also accused of doing propaganda for Scientology) : in these two movies, the Earth is a “desert” (without any humans), and it might be saved by a young hero (Kitai in After Earth and Jonnie Goodboy Tyler in Battlefield Earth)

  • the volcano which looks a lot like the one represented in the cover of the book Dianetics, and also, it's a picture frequently used in the scientologist commercials

  • the american multiplatform media brand, The Hollywood Reporter, identified the movie with the help of an ex-scientologist, Marc Headley, and according to them, After Earth includes symbols, words and dialogues similar to some elements developed in Dianetics

  • then again, we can clearly see that Cypher, the father, guides his son, Kitai by using the audition (more information about it above) in order to help him to achieve inner peace. Moreover, the enhancement is made step by step during the audition sessions : Kitai overcomes the dangers gradually

  • the “important sentence” of the movie is “danger is real, fear is a choice” : overcoming the fear is a theme developed a lot in Dianetics by Ron Hubbard. Indeed, for this latter, in order to be able to progress spiritually, you have to phase out your fear (which is from the point of view of Hubbard a pure product of the mind) and put aside your doubts : Cypher adheres to Hubbard's advice, haha.. (he is able to be ignorant of his fear and he is almost deprived of emotions..)

  • the uniform of Cypher remind us the uniforms the Sea Org*²

  • well this is maybe a little far-fetched but the blind creatures which feed themselves with the fear of people may represent the dislike of Hubbard for psychiatry

  • also, Kitai calls his father “sir” and always try to impress him : in a branch of Scientology, the same thing happens for the younger

  • finally, the fact that there are some rumors about Will Smith being a scientologist (he denies it..) doesn't help the movie accused of being a “ode” to Scientology.

By the way, the same polemic occurred in 1996 with a movie called “Phenomenon” having John Travolta as the main character. Indeed, this movie concerned indirectly the “thétans” and the MEST (more informations above).

But the videos are not the only ways of propaganda. Does the name of Tom Cruise remind you something ? Well, yes, it's a famous actor who played in the Mission : Impossible series of action films, blah-blah... But there's something else.. Just take a look at these videos and you will understand :

This video has been leaked out : this video was the “privacy” of Scientology. Indeed, we can see a Tom Cruise totally enthusiastic, he even looks crazy. He is in the flights of fantasy : he said that scientologists can set up peace in the world, can cure unjured people, etc..

You remember now ? Yes, Tom Cruise is a scientologist. A really important scientologist, and a close friend of David Misacvige. So I guess you understand what I wanna told you : celebrities help too for propagande, knowing that Tom Cruise and John Travolta are the most famous scientologists. Indeed, these celebrities are the promoters of Scientology, in this way they do proselytism. Besides, David Miscavige chose Tom Cruise as the official ambassador of Scientology in the whole world. When he travels in order to promote his movies, he always ends up talking about his private life and especially Scientology.

* Dianetics : “method” of spiritual wakening created by L. Ron Hubbard, which is supposed to study the influence of the mind, but also to develop a course of therapy in order to liberate the negative loads of someone.

*1 Engram : memories let by an event.

*2 Eight dynamics :

  • the urge toward existence as self, as an individual

  • the urge to survive through creativity, including the family unit and the rearing of children;

  • the urge to survive through a group of individuals or as a group

  • the urge toward survival through all Mankind and as all Mankind

  • the urge to survive as life forms and with the help of life forms such as animals, birds, insects, fish and

    vegetation

  • the urge to survive of the physical universe, by the physical universe itself and with the help of the physical

universe and each one of its component parts

  • the urge to survive as spiritual beings or the urge for life itself to survive

  • the urge toward existence as infinity, also identified as the Supreme Being.

Sea org :  it is an elite group within Scientology created by L. Ron. Hubbard in 1966, led nowadays by David Miscavige. This group is more or less the top of Scientology.
